Anytime you squeeze a bunch of big-league crybabies like Barry Bonds, Randy Johnson, and Vladimir Guerrero into a snug space like the Valley, there’s gonna be drama. That’s fine. People dig that. But we like our aw-shucks Arizona Diamondbacks – and their chances to repeat last year’s 90-win success. Randy Johnson excluded, these are the kind of cornpone guys who’d be shovelin’ pig shit with a smile if they weren’t playing ball. But you knew that. What you might not know is that the D-Backs kick off their 2008 campaign with five games this week. Their Cactus League opener on Thursday, February 28, is a rematch of last year’s NL Championship Series against the Colorado Rockies at Tucson Electric Park, 2500 East Ajo Way. Their first Valley visit comes on Tuesday, March 4, versus the Texas Rangers at Surprise Recreation Campus.
