As you know, because you lived it, the goings-on surrounding Super Bowl XLII were monstrously off the grid. There were at least 30 bashes with price tags of $500-plus, and the nouveau-gauche admission price for one gig alone was $12,500. Per person. Then there was the endless scroll of participating stars, which ran like the closing credits of a Hollywood blockbuster. The majority were NFL vets from times of yore, and while we wouldve happily paid a fair price to see Dick Butkus sink a birdie, $850 wasnt it. How bout $15? Will that chump change tempt you out to the Phoenix Celebrity Classic to watch the likes of Eric Dickerson, Goose Gossage, Spud Webb, Claude Lemieux, Fred The Hammer Williamson, Cheech Marin, and Dan Quayle tee it up for charity? Preliminary activities begin Wednesday, May 7. First-round action starts May 8; the final round is on May 10.
